why christians tithe

Malachi 3:10
Bring all the tithes into the store house so there will be enough food in my temple. If you do,’ says the Lord Almighty,”I will open up the windows of heaven for you”.

my note: i tithe because i want my church to be able to do the great things it does. 10% is a guide. i give because I enjoy doing so. i give what i can. i give money, time, brain power, sweat, whatever. my tip: just give whatever – you will find you enjoy it.

PS: check out this funny cartoon re tithing.

Update: ;my wife reminded me about another version of this verse. It says “Test me in this“. God wants us to tithe so we can test our faith – and that he will “pour out blessings to us“. Opening the windows of heaven is about the strongest language the Bible uses to describe the extent of God’s blessing! But it starts with your response to God’s offer to test Him in this area by giving to Him first.

Comment on the comment: I agree – christian’s tithe because they are told to. And really god does not care if we tithe – he cares about what is in our heart. He does not look at what we do – but why we do it.

  1. Christians tithe because they are told they are suppose to, but really we are not told to give less than 100%, considering we are all stewards of the kings land. tithing is at best a minimal principle that can be used to help teach us stewardship, but by no means is it a command. It can’t be commanded because we can’t even practice it the ways israel had done it in the OT, and we don’t have any instruction in the NT on how to change it for the church. http://churchtithesandofferings.com
