apparently Einstein did get it

Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.

true compassion

True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr

how poor are you really?

More than 1 billion people live in absolute poverty. This includes 700 million people living in slums, 500 million people on the verge of starvation, 93 million beggars, and 200 million children exploited for labor.

1.2 billion of the world’s poorest populations must survive on $1 a day.

It’s not about us remember. Lord, what can I do?

be still. look up.

Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, said our preoccupation with technological communication is creating in us something he calls partial attention disorder.

We have long lists of acquaintances in our mobile phone books, but fewer close friends.

More importantly, we are losing the power to contemplate .

We are finding it difficult to express the soul within us.

The Bible talks of Jesus often just turning his eyes towards Heaven in the midst of a world gone mad.

It was the same for the leaders of the early church Peter and Paul. When confronted by mindless chatter, ignorance and hatred they often turned their eyes to Heaven.

The seeker of the sacred looks up.

Poem about where we meet God

I found this poem about where we see, find, experience God.

If God is to be a real present God, we need to meet him in our real world. This poem has some great lines about where this happens:

  • in the quake and in the quiet,
  • when we flee and as we search.
  • On the canvas of an artist,
  • when our hopes have turned to dust

I am not a poem but can I also add:

  • when I stub my toe
  • when fear creeps into my mind
  • when my baby boy squeals in delight at seeing me

Just keep your mind open so you dont miss these times!
